Performance Objectives:

• Provides leadership, training, and mentoring of the engineering team. 
• Oversees, directs, plans, and executes engineering projects, including adherence to schedule, scope, budget, design, and internal QMS Process.
• Supervises and coaches a design team through projects and ensures projects will be completed accurately and timely.
• Build and maintain client relationships by communicating and understanding client’s needs, technical expertise/disciplines required, prepares complex design deliverables, and provides timely project updates.
• Promotes and performs QA/QC reviews of design in accordance with PHX Engineering’s QMS Process to insure design quality, compliance with client design standards, safety requirements, and good industry practices.
• Ability to manage the project design team; including the specification of equipment, project completion, coordination with customers, vendors and subcontractors.  
• Performs complex engineering, calculations, and analysis in various power engineer and design softwares.  

• Actively leads and mentors a team to create accurate and complete:
  • schematic designs for our clients.  This includes Single Line, Schematic Control, & Network Diagrams;
  • physical plant designs, including: 2D and 3D Layout, Ground Grids, Substructure, & Electrical Plans;
  • engineering designs, including Bill of Material, Power Studies, Protective Relay Settings, Specifications, Submittal Approval, & Calculations.
• Coordinates engagements, including interactions with clients and internal and external project managers
• Participates in collaborative whiteboarding sessions to coordinate concepts and design challenges as they arise.

Capabilities /  Key Competencies:

• Self-motivated, collaborative and possess strong leadership skills or potential.
• Deep technical expertise with high voltage systems.
• Understanding of project management principles.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, ETAP, & Excel required.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Active Professional Engineering (P.E.) License.
• 10+ years’ work experience and have worked for an electrical design firm, design build or EPC contractor, or utility specializing in substation and/or T&D.
• Proficiency in MS Office Software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project

Position Summary:

At Phase X, the Civil/Structural Engineer (C/S) can directly apply their knowledge of substation and transmission line engineering principles and practices.  The engineer will contribute to projects from a technical perspective while helping other engineers and designers through complex 69kV to 500kV projects.  The primary focus areas are substations, transmission lines, renewables, and heavy industrial projects, however, it can vary. The engineer will be helping develop accurate specifications, construction drawings, and engineering calculations and studies. The engineer will assist in monitoring and maintaining project schedules, budget, and resource requirements. The engineer will need to identify risks that may affect safety, design, and constructability of projects. 

Ultimately, a successful engineer will provide excellent technical calculations, drawing markups/reviews, and communication with internal team members and clients.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, design and oversee the civil/structural design of above and below grade of substation, PV and BESS yards, and transmission lines.
• Create and review detailed calculation reports for foundations (slabs, piers, spread foundations, steel piles, retaining walls, etc.)
• Create and review detailed calculation reports for steel and masonry structures and anchorage.
• Create and review detailed calculation reports for rigid bus and oil containment.
• Review geotechnical reports and requirements. Create job specific geotechnical specifications.
• Perform quality reviews of design in accordance with PHX Quality Management System to ensure compliance NESC, GO95 (CA), ASCE, ACI, ANSI, AISC, IEEE, client design standards, safety requirements, and good industry practices. 
• Prepare and oversee preparation of civil/structural design documents for construction. 
• Participate in collaborative whiteboarding sessions to coordinate concepts and design challenges as they arise.
• Manage construction administration for projects including submittals, RFI’s, and correspondence.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Civil or Structural.
• Active, or working toward a Professional Engineering (P.E.) License.
• 3+ years of related work experience and have worked for an electrical design firm, design build contractor, or utility specializing in substation and/or T&D.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office software: WORD, EXCEL, TEAMS, and PowerPoint.
• Proficiency with 3D design software: RISA 3D (Preferred)/SAP 2000, or equivalent.
• Proficiency with foundation design software: RISA Foundation, L-Pile, FAD Tools.
• Proficiency with anchorage design software: Hilti Profis, Dewalt Design Assist, or equivalent.
• Proficiency in concrete design, steel design, and structural analysis as related to substation and transmission line components.
• Proficiency with design codes: IBC, ASCE 7/MOP 113, AISC 360, ACI 318, IEEE 605/693, TMS 402
• Strong knowledge of structural drawing/specification standards with the ability to write new company standards when applicable.
• Strong understanding of geotechnical reports and requirements.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. 
• Ability to work with limited supervision and guidance to meet project commitments.
• Technical knowledge with high voltage systems.

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree in engineering, Civil or Structural.
• Strong understanding of related fields such as geotechnical and civil site development.
• Proficiency with Transmission Design Software, PLS-CADD/PLS Tower/PLS Pole.
• Proficiency with Drafting Software: Revit (Preferred), AutoCAD, Inventor, Bluebeam.
• Proficiency with MathCAD design templates or equivalent.
• Self-motivated and collaborative.
